Dr. John Yee | MDCM, FRCS(C)

 

Overview:

Dr. Yee is an active staff thoracic surgeon and lung transplant surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia in practice for over 2 decades. Dr. Yee has a wide breadth of expertise in treating diseases of the lung, esophagus, stomach, chest wall, airway, and mediastinum. Originally from Montreal QC, Dr. Yee began his medical and surgical training at McGill University. He subsequently continued training in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Michigan, where he began his surgical and academic career. Dr Yee was recruited home to Canada and VGH to expand the thoracic surgery and lung transplantation programs. Dr. Yee directs the BC provincial lung transplant program, and successfully expanded the program to support ex vivo lung perfusion. Dr Yee is a successful researcher, recently instrumental to the success of the BC lung cancer screening trial, which directly lead BC to be the first province in Canada to offer screening for those at risk of lung cancer.

A Vancouverite born and raised, Dr. McGuire is an Advanced Thoracic Fellowship Trained active staff thoracic surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia. Dr. McGuire is a successful researcher with surgical specialty interests in lung cancer, airway surgery, esophageal cancer, minimally invasive surgical technology (keyhole surgery), diseases of the thymus, esophageal function and other surgical diseases of the chest. Dr. McGuire‘s current research projects focus on lung cancer including, never smoker cancer, air pollution, and tissue biomarker epidemiology. Dr. McGuire is a Michael Smith Health Research BC (MSHRBC) Health Professional Investigator, and directs the VGH MIS Thoracic Fellowship.

Dr. Choi is an active staff thoracic surgeon and lung transplant surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Choi has advanced expertise in treating a diseases of the lung, esophagus, stomach, chest wall, airway, and mediastinum.  He also performs lung transplantation and ex vivo lung perfusion.  His surgical approach is minimally invasive surgery. He has trained at leading institutions in the world to bring this expertise back for British Columbians.  He has sub-specialty Oncology training from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Lung Transplantation and ECMO from the University of Toronto, a center renowned as the world-leader in lung transplantation. He was recruited to VGH where he founded the Lung Transplant Fellowship program, and supports the VGH MIS thoracic fellowship.

Dr. Kyle Grant | MD, MSc, FRCS(C)

Overview:

Dr. Grant is an active staff thoracic surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Grant has a clinical interest in thoracic surgery for sarcoma and chest wall reconstruction. He also has expertise in treating general thoracic surgical diseases both benign and malignant. Originally from Winnipeg, Dr Grant completed his medical degree and General Surgery at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Grant subsequently relocated to Vancouver for Thoracic Surgery Training, and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Grant has a keen interest in medical education, and is active in the VGH MIS thoracic surgery training program.

Dr. Leith Dewar | MD, MSc, FRCS(C)

Overview:

A Vancouverite born and raised, Dr. Dewar is an active staff thoracic surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia. Dr Dewar completed his medical degree at the University of British Columbia, rotating surgical internship at St. Michael’s hospital University of Toronto, and returned to BC for Cardiothoracic residency at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Dewar has been in clinical practice in British Columbia since 2012, first as a cardiac surgeon with St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, and now as a thoracic surgeon at Vancouver General. Dr. Dewar has a keen interest in medical education, developing confidence in surgical trainees and supporting surgical education at the University of British Columbia. Dr Dewar is the Health and Wellness officer for Royal College of Canada Thoracic Surgery Residency Program at the University of British Columbia.
